Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a probiotic species with multiple strains. Results from one strain should not be generalized to the whole species.
A weight-management trial
NIH ODS summarizes a 24-week randomized trial of L. rhamnosus CGMCC1.3724 combined with an energy-restricted diet for the first 12 weeks. Overall weight loss was not significantly different from placebo, although a female subgroup showed greater reductions.
Why subgroup findings need care
Subgroup results can generate useful hypotheses but should not automatically be presented as a universal effect. Sex, baseline body weight, diet and other characteristics can influence outcomes.
Product marketing context
The Lean for Good merchant page references L. rhamnosus in its Biome marketing. That does not establish that the commercial formula is equivalent to the exact intervention summarized by NIH.
Bottom line
Read the complete strain designation and study design before accepting a simplified “this species causes weight loss” claim.
