Lactobacillus gasseri
Lactobacillus gasseri appears frequently in weight-management supplement marketing, but the details of the tested strain and study design matter.
What NIH highlights
NIH ODS summarizes a 12-week trial in 210 adults with high visceral fat involving fermented milk containing L. gasseri SBT2055. The probiotic groups showed reductions in visceral-fat area and several anthropometric measures versus control.
What that does not prove
The study does not establish that every L. gasseri strain, every capsule dose or every multi-ingredient product will reproduce the same effect. Extrapolating across strains and formulations is a common evidence error.
Where it appears commercially
Lean for Good's Biome marketing discusses L. gasseri among its highlighted bacteria. Our LeanBiome ingredient guide explains why ingredient-level evidence is not the same as finished-product evidence.
Bottom line
L. gasseri is worth understanding as a research entity, not as a generic promise. When evaluating a product, look for the exact strain and amount.
